If you have a chronic condition such as diabetes, heart disease or COPD you are at high risk for having flu related health problems. Stay healthy this flu season. Preventing the Flu: Good Health Habits Can Help Stop the Spread of Germs

Remember, the single best way to prevent seasonal flu is to get a flu shot each year. Here are other tips that can help you stay healthy this flu season.

  1. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
    When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.
  2. Stay home when you are sick.
    If you get the flu, stay home and get plenty of rest and fluids. Staying home can also prevent spreading your illness to others.
  3. Practice other good health habits.
    Wash your hands often. Cover your mouth when coughing and sneezing. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces, especially when someone is ill.
  4. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
    Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth.
  5. Take care of your health.
    Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.
